THE
BLACK ROCK
TAPES

HOW IT BEGAN

It was my second year at college and we was assigned to create a game using unreal engine, and to work in a team. My team included 2 others, a 3D artist, and a designer. We made a series of in-universe video tapes to promote the game and to also include inside the game.

The black rock tapes, while showcasing our inexperience, was about travelling through different quarantine zones trying to uncover what caused the outbreak of monsters roaming around the city, and to try and put a stop to it.

We never got to finish the game but I am semi-proud of how it turned out.

Also the videos were peak, feel free to take a look.

The game was inspired by a youtube series names "Vita CARNIS".

There were 3 main levels in The Black Rock Tapes. Each area had a different enemy AI. The Mass, The Petrified, and the ɔɾɯzzɥƎ.

The Mass is a creature that will disappear and reappear completely randomly, and when it does appear you must NOT MOVE, moving a muscle will cause the creature to rip your head off in an instant.

The Petrified is a creature that acts similar to the weeping angels from Doctor Who, whilst you look at them they are incapable of moving. Its when you look away do they give full chase.

And finally is the ɔɾɯzzɥƎ which simply roams the street. if it spots you, your dead. simple as.

We also added a few puzzles, such as a gate that requires you to find and insert fuses into the fuse box to unlock. or a door that requires you to find a crowbar to remove the wooden planks from.

All in all total gameplay was around 30-40 minutes depending on the player.

WHERE IS IT???

The game was supposed to be uploaded to itch, however we failed to create a build due to the size of the project. In the end we left the project without managing to upload it to itch.io. A decision I highly regret because I wish I could go back and play this game.

I would try again however I have no idea what happened to the github repository, if I find it I promise it will be published to itch for you to play.

For now just imagine it was the best game ever created :)
